I hope the following words of prayer bring comfort to you in your time of bereavement.

“O Great God, there is nothing that can separate us from the love you have for us in Christ. Not this present grief, not the frailty of our bodies, not even life or death. Your love for us endures through and over all things. Psalm 30:5 says ‘Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. –

“O Lord, you’ve taken our colleague loved one from this life, and she is left with pain and sorrow, questions without answers, emptiness and loneliness.

“Yet your Word says to have hope. We believe that death has been defeated in Christ (though she does not feel that victory right now). We believe that you have a plan and a purpose for all things (though she can’t fathom why that would include this loss). We believe that in Christ you bore our pain and grieve and sorrow (though she sure feels heavy-burdened right now). Help her through this, O God of Help, sustain and restore her.

“Your promise is that weeping may tarry for the night, but joy will come in the morning.

We do not know how long this night will last, but we believe your Word. Uphold her spirit in this pain and grief, and lead her through the valley of the shadow of death into streams of living water, to a place of peace, love, hope, and even joy. Even as she mourns the passing of her loved one, help her to see the dawning of a new day according to your riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Amen.”
